School Courtyard Paving & Seating Area Installation

Creative Stone supplied materials for a courtyard paving and seating area installation at St Benedict’s College, designed to create a durable, structured outdoor space for students within the Prep Academy.

The project combines Flamed Granite Flagstones, Bullnose coping, and Ledgestone cladding to define a central circular seating area, framed by clean edges and integrated planting.

The result is a functional, low-maintenance space that balances structure with natural texture – suited to high-traffic educational environments.

PRODUCTS FEATURED

This project incorporates several products from the Creative Stone range, carefully selected to create a durable, low-maintenance and visually engaging school courtyard:

Courtyard Paving for High-Traffic Environments

This project shows how large-format flagstone paving can be used effectively in school courtyards and shared outdoor environments, where both durability and clarity of layout are important.

The flamed granite finish gives the surface a subtle texture underfoot, making it well-suited to high-use areas while maintaining a consistent and uniform appearance across the space. It delivers the character of natural stone without the visual noise or complexity that often comes with more irregular paving.

The circular layout brings structure to the courtyard, creating a defined central point that naturally draws people in, while still allowing easy movement through the surrounding walkways.

Integrated Seating with Bullnose Edge Detailing

The curved seating area is finished with bullnose edging, giving the structure a softer, more resolved edge that follows the form of the design. In a school environment especially, this detail plays an important role — reducing harsh corners while making the transition between surfaces feel more natural.

Beyond function, it brings a sense of completeness to the space. The seating doesn’t feel added on, but rather built into the layout from the start.

Ledgestone Cladding for Structure & Contrast

The vertical faces of the seating and planter walls are clad in Ledgestone, introducing texture and contrast against the smoother paved surface. This adds depth to what would otherwise be a very uniform space, helping the different elements read more clearly.

It also reinforces the structure of the design — giving weight to the seating areas and grounding them within the courtyard.
